Transition Recreation

We chose to recreate the transition from 0:27-0:44. The transition opens with a close-up shot using a shallow depth of field with the subject in focus. The subject is looking into the distance and lip syncing. The transition pans to the left and slowly softens the focus, hiding the cut between two separate shots. This second shot continues the left pan at the same speed, finishing on the subject standing further away, so the focus is further away from the camera. The subject is silhouetted and the sky is a different colour, implying a time difference as the natural light has changed.

This is our recreation of the transition. Overall I am happy with this, as I think we framed the shots well, matched the shot sizes, and used the focus effectively. We also managed to create a smooth pan with a handheld camera, as a tripod wasn't available. However, if we were to do this again with more time and resources, there are a number of things I would change.

We didn't have the track with us when filming, so our actor simple spoke the lyrics and in post-production we adjusted the speed of the clip to fit with the song. However, this looks unnatural as it isn't singing, so it does't match the original video. We also made a mistake with the lyrics. In the original clip, the pan begins on the line 'I am worlds away'. However in our clip we began the pan sooner, so that the words 'worlds away' are sung as the subject stands further away in the second clip. We also used a setting that was unlike the original. We didn't have a beach available, so a grass setting in our school was the best we could find.

Overall I am happy with this recreation. There would be things that I would change, but due to the timeframe and filming situation I believe we did well.
