Purpose and Conventions of a Digipak

A digipak is a patented style of CD packaging. Digipaks were the first alternative to jewel cases, and since there were no other common names for the style of packaging, the term Digipak became the norm.
Digipaks consist of a paperboard or card outer binding, with plastic trays to hold a CD on the inside.
The paper cover usually features artwork, the title of the album, and sometimes the artist logo to help identify it. The back cover has a track lists, and usually a continuation of the artwork. The album title and artist name or logo are sometimes also found not he spine, to help identify the album when it's stacked with others.
